Earthquake In New York

**Earthquake Rattles New York City and Surroundings** On Friday morning, shortly after 10:20 AM, a magnitude-4.8 earthquake shook buildings across the New York City region. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter of the quake was located about 10 miles northeast of Oswego, New York. Shocks were felt in several major cities, including New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. A preliminary 4.7 magnitude earthquake was initially reported, but it was later revised to 4.8. An aftershock measuring 4.0 magnitude occurred at approximately 9:45 PM, further jolting the region. The USGS said that the earthquake was the largest to hit the New York City area since 2015. The quake caused minor damage to buildings and infrastructure. There were reports of cracked walls, fallen ceiling tiles, and broken windows. No serious injuries were reported. Experts say that earthquakes are relatively common in the New York City region, but strong earthquakes are rare. The last major earthquake to hit the city was a magnitude-5.8 in 1884. The USGS recommends that residents of earthquake-prone areas be prepared by securing heavy objects, knowing evacuation routes, and having a plan for communication if phone lines are down.
