Toyota Extends Dominance in LMP1
Toyota Gazoo Racing has emerged victorious from the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2020, with the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid driven by Kazuki Nakajima, Sébastien Buemi, and Brendon Hartley crossing the finish line first. This marks Nakajima and Buemi's third Le Mans victory and Hartley's second.
The race, originally scheduled for June, was postponed to September due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Toyota's triumph is their third consecutive win in the LMP1 class, further cementing their dominance in endurance racing.
The #8 Toyota led for the majority of the race, with the sister car, the #7 Toyota driven by José María López, Kamui Kobayashi, and Mike Conway, running in second for much of the event. However, a late-race challenge from the ByKolles Racing Team LMP1 car failed to materialize, leaving Toyota with a comfortable margin of victory.
In addition to the outright victory, Toyota also secured the LMP1 Teams Championship, further solidifying their position as the top team in endurance racing. The 2020 Le Mans victory is a testament to Toyota's unwavering commitment to innovation and performance.
